07/28/2010 - Spearfish, S.D. – Black Hills State University had six teams earn NAIA Scholar Team Awards during the 2009-2010 athletic season.
“We are proud of the student-athletes at Black Hills State,” said athletic director Jhett Albers. “Our student-athletes are here to gain an education and earn a degree. Having six teams with GPA’s over 3.0 shows their commitment to excellence in the classroom as well as in the competition arena.”
For a team to be considered for the award, it must have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. The team GPA must include all student-athletes certified as eligible.
The teams earning the awards included women’s basketball (3.30), men’s cross country (3.23), women’s cross country (3.25), golf (3.23), softball (3.20), and volleyball (3.35).
A record 857 teams in the NAIA earned the honor this past season.
