07/27/2010 - WATERTOWN, S.D. – A Watertown man died Monday, July 26, in a one-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 81 south of Watertown.
Gerald L. Cook, 84, was northbound in a 2006 Chevrolet Colorado on Highway 81 when his vehicle veered across the southbound lane of traffic and entered the west ditch. The vehicle went through a field and collided with trees in a shelterbelt. Cook was taken to a Watertown hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was wearing a seatbelt.
The accident happened about 5 p.m.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The Codington County Sheriff’s Office, Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office and Watertown Fire and Rescue assisted.
